Me+Something Corporate+Desert Island= A Good Time

When I read today’s prompt at the daily post,  I sat there for a few minutes completely at a loss.

If stranded on a desert island, and could only bring one music album with you, which would it be? What is it about this music that never gets old for you?

So many different songs popped into my head, but very few whole albums.  I often have the misfortune of discovering one song that I absolutely love, only to realize that I can barely tolerate the rest of the songs on the album.(after I’ve already downloaded it, mind you.)

Needing some serious inspiration,  I went digging around in my closet. I knew that somewhere under the heap of dirty laundry was the box that held all of my CDs, which I had long since uploaded to Itunes and forgotten about.  Feeling impatient I dumped them out the floor, and as I sifted through them memories of my teenage angst bubbled up from my subconscious. I knew in that moment exactly which album I would choose.

Leaving Through The Window by Something Corporate

This album takes me back to the 7th grade,  when I hated pretty much everything about my life.  I was too skinny, had too many pimples, had boobs that were too big for my body, and an over-protective mother who didn’t let me do anything. Thinking about it now I realize that puberty had similar effects on every other girl my age,  but at the time I just felt like life was always going to suck. I remember listening to this album and feeling like I could relate to every single track. That and the fact that to my hormone fueled brain, Andrew Mcmahon’s voice sounded extremely sexy.  ;-). Also, being an orchestra geek, I found the fact that he was a pianist equally sexy.

I used to listen to it every day while whining in my journal about whatever my mom or sister had done to piss me off lately, and I never got tired of it. And listening to it now I’m falling in love with it all over again.  So I guess if Something Corporate could get me through my awkward, angsty teenage years then being stranded on a desert island should be a piece of cake!

Do you recognize any of the album covers in the picture above? If so,  leave me a comment and tell me which ones you like, hate, or are laughing at me for listening to.
